
The initial plot was uninspiring and a bit daunting to the uninitiated. Apart from being a very odd shape, the plot fell away from the house by several feet. Despite a step, the fall of six brick courses from back door to garden level felt like a huge drop.

With a width of, this initial plot is only just wider than the French windows that let onto it. The length of ,was for shortened by a bushy bay tree and the narrow borders were quite uninspiring. Width ways there was barely room for a table and chairs.

At only 3 by 7 meters this terrace is perhaps a good size area although not purpose built. The
view includes the now open Spinnaker Tower. As it would have been expensive and inconvenient to inspect the roof structure the design needed to be self-supporting. (read more)
