Many aspects of this design increase the apparent size of this tiny area. The broad sweeping curves of the raised beds feel as if they continue beyond the garden. On a really practical note the walls of the beds include seating with storage below leaving space for a table between as and when needed. The cedar deck is built at the same level as the wood floor inside and the small boards (90 mm) increase the apparent area. The continuous horizontal slats of the screening expand the scene still further before the abundant planting pulls all these ‘tromp d’oeil’ together.
“I wanted to extend the cottage by creating an "outdoor room" with the garden. Barry's design utilised a small piece of land and created a spacious garden that reflects my love of sailing and the sea side. I was impressed by
his innovative ideas and the quality of his workmanship.”
